Their 1st hit song off their follow up album to the huge Play Deep album. The name of this album was Bangin' and it looked like The Outfield was picking right up where they left off.

My final post from the Play Deep album and the 2nd song of the two I told you were kinda marginal. Still in all, very listenable and no need to skip it when listening to the entire album.

Play Deep was definitely one of the best albums of the 80's.

The Outfield - 61 Seconds

This song and the next I will post are the two songs I thought were marginal off the Play Deep album. Still they aren't bad at all. The two worst songs on the album were still listenable and better than a lot of other bands best songs.

The Outfield - Nervous Alibi

Absolutely love this song. How this was never released as a single I'll never understand. Would have definitely hit the charts. Great slow song for these guys off their Play Deep album.

The Outfield - Taking My Chances

Another, should have been, hit song off the Play Deep album. In this song the guitarist (John Spinks), who was also the main songwriter for the group, proves he could sing just as well.

I find it very hard to pick favorites off this album, but this one is probably in the top 3.

The Outfield's 4th and final "official" hit song off of their debut album Play Deep. They slowed it down for this song and it's actually one of their best songs.

The remaining songs I will be posting off the Play Deep album were not "officially" hits, but in my opinion they were just as good as the songs that gained radio play. I'm finding it difficult to find videos for the remaining songs, but I can at the very least post the songs.

This was The Outfield's 3rd consecutive hit song off of their Play Deep LP. Their lead singer, Tony Lewis, in my opinion, has one of the best voices in rock. Don't you agree?

This song needs no introduction or description. Everybody loves it and knows it. This song has more than stood the test of time.

I think the biggest praise I can give this song is the fact I have never met a single person who doesn't like this song. Sing along and enjoy!!!

This is the Outfield's first song on their Play Deep LP. It is also their first hit song and Play Deep was their first album. Great song to kick off one of the best albums to come out of the 80's.

I'm going to try and resist the urge to post every song off the Play Deep album, but I'm not promising anything. This is one of those rare albums that can be played from beginning to end without skipping songs. There are really only two songs that are marginal, but they're pretty good too. Enjoy!

Artist of the Week - The Outfield

The Outfield are a British pop rock band based in London. They began recording during the mid-1980s, and released their first album, Play Deep in 1985. The album went triple platinum in America. The Outfield are unusual for a British band in that they enjoyed commercial success in the US, but never reached the album or singles charts in their homeland. They continued to record into the early 1990s, before a hiatus during the middle of that decade. They resumed touring in 1998, and thereafter released two live albums via their web site. The band's latest album, Any Time Now, was released by Sidewinder Records in March, 2006.
